Jack Crevalle took a popper

In 1986, I was taught fly fishing in Iceland, where I engaged in fishing lakes and rivers for Brown Trout, Arctic Char, and Salmon. However, fly fishing in the saltwater proved impractical due to the frigid North Atlantic and challenging waves.

In 2007, I relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where I discovered limited rivers suitable for my fishing style. Subsequently, I acquired the skill to cast while seated on a sit-on-top kayak, fishing the saltwater of Corpus Christi Bay and the area southeast of Shamrock Island.

In 2009, I relocated to Gulf Breeze, Florida, where I engaged in fly fishing with a local guide named Baz Ylverton, who is a friend of mine (https://0f23645.netsolhost.com). Additionally, I provided casting assistance to clients. Experienced freshwater fly casters often encounter difficulties in saltwater fishing. I dedicated myself to studying casting and equipment, earning a certification as a Certified Casting Instructor in 2016 through Fly Fishers International. Currently, I offer private lessons and facilitate sessions for members of fly-casting clubs. Furthermore, I have acquired proficiency in saltwater fishing techniques.

In 2020, I relocated to Lutz. I am currently actively involved with the Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Club (https://tbffc.org/), having collaborated with The Suncoast Fly Fishing Club St. Pete on a joint clinic for the past three years. Additionally, I have provided casting assistance to veterans through Project Healing Water.

In addition to teaching casting, I have delivered lectures on fly casting to clubs in Corpus Christi, Houston, Pensacola, and Tampa.

Purpose

The emphasis of this site is primarily educational. I write posts on casts, equipment, and fishing trips. I am Icelandic, and by also writing in Icelandic, my hope is to generate interest in an Icelandic glossary and Icelandic words for casting definitions.

Casting lessons

I provide fly casting instruction. Fly casting in saltwater presents distinct challenges compared to freshwater. The prevailing wind can be a significant obstacle, necessitating the ability to cast a considerable distance. Even seasoned freshwater fly casters may encounter difficulties in saltwater conditions. The majority of fly casters possess casting flaws that are generally amenable to correction.

Books

I have compiled an e-book titled “Fly Fishing for Beginners” in both English and Icelandic. The guide provides comprehensive information on a renowned brown trout river - Laxá í Mývatnssveit, utilizing descriptive text and images marked with specific place names.

English and Icelandic

English

We currently lack a standardized glossary for Icelandic fly fishing terminology. Casting definitions have not been translated into Icelandic. However, the Fly Fishing International (FFI) website does contain a glossary and casting definitions in English.

Anglers can undoubtedly enjoy the sport without being familiar with all these terms and definitions. However, it becomes exceedingly challenging to impart effective instruction if there is a lack of consensus regarding the meanings of words and the casting definitions.

To address this issue, the posts will be presented in both English and Icelandic. By presenting a version in Icelandic, I hope to generate greater interest in establishing a fly fishing glossary and casting definitions. This would enable us to utilize the same terminology when discussing fly casting.

Icelandic
