I was introduced to fly fishing in 1986 in Iceland. There, I fished lakes and rivers for Brown Trout, Arctic Char, and Salmon. Fly fishing there in the salt is difficult, the North Atlantic is just so cold, and the waves are unforgiving. I was introduced to saltwater fly fishing in the US. I moved to Corpus Christi in Texas in 2007. There are few rivers there with the type of fishing with which I was comfortable. That led me to fish the Corpus Christy Bay and the area southeast of Shamrock Island, and it took me a long time to figure the salt out. I mostly fished from a sit-on-top kayak and cast sitting down, which takes some time getting used to. In 2009, I relocated to Gulf Breeze, Florida (south of Pensacola). There, I fished with a local guide and helped his clients with their casting. Experienced fly casters from freshwater scenarios are known to have a meltdown when they realize that they cannot cast effectively in the salt. I started to study casting and equipment, and in 2016, I became a CCI (Certified Casting Instructor). That is a standardized global program run by Fly Fishers International. Since then, I have been teaching both private clients and members of fly-casting clubs. I also studied and mastered the techniques needed for saltwater fishing. I have gained experience of saltwater flyfishing from Texas, Florida, and The Bahamas. 2020 I moved to Lutz in the Tampa region and during the Covid years teaching was slow and interactions limited. I am currently involved with Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Club, and we have a monthly casting session. I have taught a clinic last three years in January that is a joint effort of TBFFC and The Suncoast Fly Fishing Club St. Pete. Since moving here, I have helped veterans with their casting called Project Healing Water. Apart from teaching fly casting, I have also given lectures on fly casting for casting clubs in Corpus Christi, Houston, Pensacola, and Tampa. This site will be dedicated to fly fishing and fly casting. I will also write about rods and reels and whatever takes my fancy in the fly-fishing universe.
